Mr. Arthur Bierwirth
Ms. Jennifer Sullivan

Course Introduction: Using a discovery approach and cooperative grouping, students will use hands on sketching and manipulative tools to create, analyze, interpret, solve and explain numerous geometric concepts and will apply these concepts in real life situations. Students will explore and test conjectures about parallel and perpendicular lines, congruent triangles, similarity, properties of circles and polygons, trigonometric ratios, coordinate geometry, area and volume. Students will demonstrate inductive and deductive reasoning.

Course Objectives:
A) Angles
1. Demonstrate use of geometric terminology and symbols.
2. Classify Angles
3. Use Geometric Tools
4. Determine the measures of angles formed by transversals
5. Write mathematical arguments that support conclusions

B) Objects
1. Demonstrate use of measurement systems
2. Demonstrate use of geometric formulas: perimeter, area, and volume
3. Solve application problems

C) Triangles
1. Classify Triangles
2. Demonstrate the use of estimation strategies
3. Use the Pythagorean Theorem
4. Solve problems using geometric figures
5. Determine whether two triangles are similar
6. Determine whether two triangles are congruent
7. Define the three basic trigonometric functions 8. Solve application problems using properties of triangles

D) Graphs
1. Interpret data
2. Organize data into graphic form
3. Use rectangular coordinate system (Cartesian Geometry)
