11th Grade History
Mr. Kevin McNally

This is a general survey course of the main currents in American history since 1877. Since the 1870's we have witnessed major transformations in the makeup of American society and culture. Thus, the history of this era is a story of capital development and economic crises, labor unrest, social class formation, urbanization, militarization, regional diversification, and cultural innovations. This course will focus on many of the traditional themes usually covered in a general survey.

Juniors at Prep Charter High School will continue to increase, improve, and refine their communication skills. Students will read a variety of genres in US History and analyze and respond to each selection. In a curriculum, which parallels the literature and writing components, students will acquire knowledge about the history of the United States. Students will be required to apply this knowledge to their own lives, and demonstrate comprehension, application, and analysis of how constitutional and legal concepts in history relate to literature selections studied throughout the academic year.

Oral language skills will also be addressed throughout US History. Students will improve their abilities to express themselves in small and large group settings, practice and apply active listening skills, and acquire and apply video analysis expertise.
