12th Grade Science (CCP)
During their second semester on campus at the Community College of Philadelphia, all of our students take a course in environmental science. Most of our students are enrolled in EASC 111, which is a non-laboratory class in environmental science. A few of our students, whose skills on the reading and writing placement tests indicate they may struggle with some of the science class materials, are matriculated in an environmental science class taught by a CCP professor to a self-contained class of Prep Charter students. EASC 111 is taught by professors from the college staff and concentrates on instructing the students in the history of American environmental issues and instilling a greater understanding of their own personal surroundings, with an eye to improving their own environment. Assessments in both the non-credit class and EASC include homework assignments, chapter and unit tests, papers based upon critical thinking questions, a project based upon the material covered throughout the semester, and a final examination.
