Chess Club
Mr. ArrisonThe Prep Charter High School Chess Team meets every Tuesday afternoon. Students can learn to play chess or compete against another club member. Members play each other and discuss chess strategy such as opening and closing gambits. The club sponsors a schoolwide chess tournament every March. The entire student body is invited to participate, and the winner receives an ornate chess set as a prize. This year the Prep Charter Chess Club joined the Philadelphia Public School Chess League. Students on the Prep Charter competition team play against students from other high schools across the city. The season begins in November and culminates with playoffs in February. The Chess Club has grown since its inception last year and now boasts a membership of more than thirty (30) students. In the near future, club members will be invited to participate in city-wide tournaments where they will compete for cash prizes. The Chess Club is an exciting and challenging activity offered to all Prep Charter students.
