Test Prep - Saturday
The Test Prep on Saturday program for juniors at Prep
Charter is a building block for requirements for our
seniors: attendance at classes on campus at
the Community College of Philadelphia and application
to at least one college for post-secondary education. In addition, our 11th graders must take the PSSA Writing, Math, and Reading tests along with the CCP Placement test and the SAT in the spring of their junior year.
To best prepare students for these crucial assessments, we provide sixty hours of instruction to stengthen their writing, reading, and math skills. Seventeen sessions are offered between September and May. Students must attend fifteen of the seventeen classes.
Classes run from 8:00 a.m. to noon on selected Saturdays; each Saturday, students participate in a classes in english and math. Students earn a 0.5 credit for the Saturday Test Prep classes and receive a grade of pass (P) or fail (F) on their report cards. Failure of the Test Prep on Saturday class requires attendance in a summer school review course.
The instructional staff on Saturdays consists of Prep Charter teachers and other fully certified professionals. All lessons are content and skills-based and focus on improving our students' vocabulary and critical reading skills and math concepts and skills applications. Students also participate in practice tests on Saturday mornings, when they apply appropriate test-taking skills to relieve test anxiety and improve their test-taking skills.
Through a grant, Prep Charter pays for each student who has not had excessive absences and/or is passing Test Prep on Saturday to take the SAT in the Spring of 11th grade.
